Wild Hogs and Pigs
I went driving in the country to see what I could see and boy did I see!

These feral hogs and pigs were crossing the road and really were not in any hurry. Everybody around here has seen some but me…. until today! I wish I could have gotten closer, but with those young ones, it wouldn’t have been safe to get out of the truck. The sows will do some serious damage if they feel you are threatening their babies. For that matter, they say any of them are dangerous to get close to.
Feral hogs are domestic hogs that either escaped or were released for hunting purposes. Each generation, the hog’s domestic traits diminish and they develop the characteristics necessary for survival in the wild.
Texas alone is now estimated to be home to at least two million of the beasts. They are hunted and trapped and are generally considered a nuisance as they ruin farmlands by rooting up the landscape searching for food.
I was still excited to see them even if they are are not welcome. They made a mess of one of our pastures last year and no doubt will be back at some point. These were spotted about three miles south of where I live and way off the beaten path.
The pictures were shot through the windshield, but thank goodness my PSP cleaned them up pretty good.
