When Cotton was King

Many years ago when I was a kid… gosh I hate saying that…. this cotton gin was in use. Now it sits idle, abandoned and all used up. Shame really, at one time Eli Whitney would have been very proud!

The premises surrounding this once fine structure are nothing but vines, overgrown bushes and trees. When the leaves are on the trees, the gin is not visible from the road. I don’t know who owns the property now, by the looks of things, I suppose it is someone or some entity that doesn’t care.

While we were prowling around the other afternoon, Ed found scale tickets with his Dad’s name from the early 70’s along with many, many other farmers no longer walking this earth, but still in our memories. It made for a great day!
