Muffin aka Muffy, yes, she finally has a name, deposited kittens under the old house at the farm today. We should have known when we adopted her from the flea market she was with children. I thought she was too young to have already bred, but I was very, very wrong.

It was an ordeal to get them gathered and into the old house. Being her first litter, she acted as if she didn’t know what to do. When I showed up this morning, she came from the garage and I could tell she was no longer pregnant. As I walked around the house, I heard two of the kittens under it. I pulled away some of the underpinning, reached inside and got the gray and the white one.
To make a long story (and day) shorter, it took most of it to get her to go under and bring out the other two I could hear crying. I’m not convinced there is not a fifth one, but there’s nothing I can do about it. The old house is pretty much on the ground in places and there’s no way a human could get under there and look around. If she hasn’t retrieved any more by morning, then perhaps I’m wrong.
When I last checked on them before dark, she seemed to have settled down. Hopefully, they will still be in the same spot in the morning. She can come and go for there are windows open. It’s too hot to leave her shut in there without any air, so we will keep our fingers crossed she’s satisfied now. I didn’t want them under the house, they would be wild when they finally emerged. I want to have the ability to take care of them and they need to be gentle and easily petted and with them in the house until they are older, that can be accomplished.
I wanted farm cats to keep old Patches company, but I didn’t want this many this soon! And would you look at the different colors!
