No, nothing happened to them! I’m mad at myself cause I saw all four baby kildeer WITH NO FREAKIN’ CAMERA in tow! I’m excited cause I came back to the house, retrieved the camera, managed to see the last little wobbly straggler and got him to pose as well as the mama bird! Cute kid, don’t you think?
I found the nest yesterday when traveling a gravel road. Amazing birds with definite optimism! Their nests are on the ground and usually just off the well traveled tire tracks on the sides of the roads. In our part of the world if two vehicles were to meet on the narrow roads at the right moment, poor girl’s nest would be destroyed! However, she doesn’t seem to notice that particular threat, but will in fact put on an Academy award winning performance of having suffered a broken wing if she feels danger from a human or another creature. The show continues if the eggs are successfully hatched and her babies are threatened. These birds hatch ready to run (although a bit wobbly at first) and look exactly like their parents once dry, only in miniature form. A definite treat to find a nest!
It’s taken 48 years, 9 months and 4 days to learn I am not always right! Whew! Did I just say that? Oh wait, I take it back…. it took that long to finally be wrong!
I just hate it when I absolutely know my ideas will work and then they don’t…. am I alone in that people?
I was the challenger and supplied the vase shapes borrowed from a dingbat. My instructions were that the vase or urns must be recognizable in the final images. I created three images, but this is my fave of them. The gallery of images from the Plus PSP regulars and my other entries can be viewed here.
And here are a couple from this week’s (March 29 - April 2)
