McAbee Bottom

January 8th, 2011

Back when my brothers and I were kids, my Mom and her best friend thought it would be a wonderful adventure (and I’m sure quite hilarious)  for us to experience a “snipe hunt” here.  They told us what to look for, which I don’t remember now what they described or how to capture snipes, but I believe now it had something to do with a paper bag, then let us out.  I was about 11, maybe 12, my brothers were 10 and about 4.  Along for the ride was a friend of the family who was a little bit older than I was.  He was all gungho about this journey and talked about how much fun it would be.  So not wanting to appear too childish, my brothers and I went along with this brilliant idea.  Did I tell you it was pitch black save for a bit of moonlight?  I was regretting this idea as soon as Alta’s car pulled out of sight “to go down the road to turn around to come back and get us”.  Our fears were soon alleved when the older kid told us Alta and my Mom were pulling our legs and to get revenge on them, “let’s hide”!  As the adults drove up and down and up and down and were becoming quite concerned, we were the ones giggling and snickering and hiding in the brush and the ditches and indeed enjoying this adventure as they passed.  It is a thousand wonders we weren’t snake bitten, but I’m certain we  taught them a lesson cause I don’t remember a time when those two decided to play tricks on us again!  Oh and yes, they did laugh, but it was from relief when they finally spotted us waving in the middle of the road as their headlights approached.

Coyote Road

Ed and I were traveling through on one of our usual wildlife searching quests when the coyote was spotted.  It turned right after this shot and headed into the woods.  The photo was taken thought the windshield of the truck and was not really worth sharing until it evoked that fun memory.  I decided to bring it to life to share with my favorite software and I’m glad I did, the final result is not too bad!
